I am the zaftig, gray haired guy around the office. I'm a geologist by training (B.S. and M.S.), who graduated from Northeastern Illinois University. I am nearing 35 years as a professional. I have been a rolling stone for much of my career which allowed me to experience many different companies and facets of the construction industry. I started out my career as a field technician testing concrete, worked in the environmental arena, became a petrographer and materials researcher, career shifted to mining geologist and up the ladder to technical services manager to vice president to general manager and now company owner. I have worked with and mentored under many great names in the construction industry, including working for some fine companies like STS Consultants (now a part of the AECOM family of companies), Portland Cement Association, Granite Rock Company, Edward Kraemer & Sons, Mathy Construction and County Materials.
I enjoy traveling, reading, being a multiple Pug owner and all that comes with it, board games, computer games, crossword puzzles, word searches, hiking, eating, sleeping and hanging out with my wife of 32 years, Nancy and my sons and their SOs. Topping my list is having fun, joking around and being a little crazy.

Mike Markgraf, Senior Geologist, Petrographer, Field Operations & Geological Services Manager (PDF Resume)
I began my professional career in Geology shortly after graduating from UW-Madison, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology and Geophysics in December, 2005. Prior to receiving my degree I spent over 10 years in the construction industry getting hands on experience with many of the problems with which our clients encounter, and therefore I have had a diverse exposure to most areas of the construction industry. I bring a practical understanding and experience to my position which allows me to communicate well with everyone from the laborer to project management and investors.
During my studies, I had the opportunity to work on extensive field based research projects including drilling cores and geologic mapping as part of the St. Croix County Glacial Deposits Project, conducted by the Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey.
I have had the benefit of cross-training in various areas of my profession. I worked for over 4 years in the Geotechnical Engineering field doing sub-surface investigations, quality control/quality assurance testing, quality plan creation for WISDOT and materials producers, materials testing and monitoring well installation.
At Schmitt Technical Services, Inc. I work almost exclusively on industrial sand and sand and gravel exploration including research, reserve evaluation and estimation and exploration and leasing agreements. I have been part of a team that has secured over 50 million tons of industrial proppant sand reserves for a client in the oil and natural gas industry.
When I am away from work I enjoy spending time with family and friends, working and hiking outdoors, wild berry picking and gardening, cooking with my family and restoring antique furniture. I am a Professional Member of the American Institute of Professional Geologists.

Skip Resenhoeft, GIS Specialist (PDF Resume)
I am a human geographer by training graduating from the University Wisconsin Eau Claire in 2004. I have experience utilizing Geographical Information Systems (GIS) for both the environmental and law enforcement industries. I have worked extensively on utility corridor projects for the electrical and pipeline industries. I have been an environmental GIS project manager and a team member for utility projects around Wisconsin and the surrounding states. In addition, I have worked with environmental scientists to map wetlands, vegetation surveys, construction plans and natural prairie seeding plans, endangered species protection plans and DNR and State permitting.
As a crime analyst I used my human geography knowledge and GIS skills to increase public safety and to increase the efficiency of police resources. Through statistical and geographical analysis, I identified crime patterns and trends to target problem areas. I produced actionable intelligence for upper level decision makers, detectives and officers to support strategic planning, active investigations and Problem Oriented Policing (POP) techniques.
At Schmitt Technical Services, Inc. I offer GIS to support to internal and external clients during the exploration process of industrial sand and sand and gravel, nonmetallic mine permitting and NR 135 nonmetallic mine reclamation planning.

I began my career in chemistry shortly after graduating from UW-Madison in May of 2000. Throughout that time, I've had the good fortune to cross-train in various areas of my profession. This, combined with my MBA from UW-Madison in May 2011, has helped me lend a unique insight into my position here at Schmitt Technical Services, Inc.
When I'm not at the office, I like to keep busy following each of my seasonal favorite sports team from Wisconsin! Beyond that, my wife and I love to travel, cook together and spend time with our pets. We especially look forward to our beautiful Wisconsin summers and all they have to offer!

In January of 2010, I began my career at Schmitt Technical Services. I have since gained on the job experience working in various areas of the company, including marketing, reception, human resource management, report editing and preparation, and accounting. My education experience includes 3 years of coursework in human movement science and general studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and MATC-Madison. I am currently continuing my education at Edgewood College in Madison, where I am pursuing a degree in Psychology.
When I'm not in the office, I'm spending my time attending school, coaching gymnastics and volunteering at the Dane County Humane Society. In addition, I enjoy spending time with my boyfriend, family, friends and pets; snowboarding and other outdoor activities; traveling, cooking, and reading. I'm also a huge Green Bay Packer fan. I am a Madison Memorial graduate of 2010. I started working at Schmitt Technical Services as a part time Petrographic assistant back in high school. I spent a year in the car industry (MINI) only to return back to Schmitt Technical as a technical assistant. I specialize in Sample Preparation as well as maintaining a clean environment throughout the building.
Outside of work I strive to maintain a high level of physical fitness. I also enjoy supporting the local Wisconsin Badgers at my current location on Breese Terrace. If I don't find myself at the gym I'm enjoying a casual ride on the longboard, hanging out with my roommates or enjoying other outdoor activities.!
